Design in Beirut Design Lighting For Dikakeen in Kuwait | Lighting Design

DIB120614006

Dikakeen is a cafe which opened in Kuwait not long ago. The designers of the project worked closely with DIB (Design in Beirut) to complement the concept of the space with proper customized lighting. Since the shop concept itself is inspired by old souks, DIB came up with fixtures that would resemble traditional lamps by using handmade glass yet embraced with modern stainless steel accessories.

The design itself is associated with nostalgic memories of old Kuwait ‘kiosks’, chefs at Dikakeen specialize in Kuwaiti food with an added twist.

The lovely floor to ceiling windows and well -lit interior, gives it a dreamy and luxurious feel. The staircase is a beautiful series of bookshelves that add a special and unique character to the space. Tula House by Patkau Architects Canada | Residential Design

tulahouse08

Tula House is located on a remote island, at the edge of a cliff, 44 feet above the Pacific Ocean. The topography of the site is highly irregular; the prospects diverse. Views to the east stretch over the open water and islands of the Strait of Georgia to the mountain ranges on the mainland of British Columbia. Views to the south overlook a small tidal basin. Moss covered basalt hills are interspersed among treed expanses and richly vegetated crevices, valleys and swales. Stands of red alder and big-leafed maple enliven the predominantly dark fir forest. The beach below the house is littered with the flotsam and jetsam of the ocean where logs and rocks have been tossed around by the tides and storms like a child’s game of “pickup sticks”. One site is actually many sites.

Jesolo Lido Pool Villa, Italy by JM Architecture | Residential Villas

jmarchitecture_jesololidopool_03

The Jesolo Lido Pool Villa is the first of a development for 9 single-family residences in the beach town of Jesolo Lido, Italy. The villa is a custom designed prefabricated wood structure, and it was built and furnished in only 6 months. Energy-saving high standards have been applied to the shell to guarantee maximum comfort and almost zero costs throughout the four seasons. The building features wood structures as a flexible and anti-seismic system which also avoids thermal bridges. The 31 cm of perimeter insulation, argon-gas insulated glass facades, 10 kw of photovoltaic panels installed on the roof and the interior / exterior led light fixtures co-operate in making a technologically contemporary building. Because of the small dimensions of the plot, the design goal has been directed in leaving as much open space as possible. The indoor living area has transparent sides which opens towards two different-sized patios. The largest one features a long swimming pool, which takes the entire length of the space, and two planted square inserts. An olive tree is the main three-dimensional element in the patio and it’s placed next to the staircase which leads to the underground level, where the storage and technical rooms are located.
