Finland’s landmark Old Market located in Helsinki, just opened after renovation. Story is a restaurant located in the old market and designed by Joanna Laajisto Creative Studio. The place is blessed with high ceilings and a flood of natural light, which is perfect for a simple interior with focus on materials and colors. The interior blends in very well with old market themes but in a fresh approach that is very inviting.
From the restaurant’s website:
Cafe-restaurant Story is the gem of the Old Market Hall in Helsinki. It offers straightforward market hall food, enjoying hte ingredients found at the market hall and the market square. Story also boasts Helsinki’s finest outdoor seating. Set between the sea and the market hall, the tables offer views of the brand new Helsinki Sky Wheel, as well as the sea. Story treats can be enjoyed on the spot, or taken away.
Story opened its doors in June 2014, together with the renovated Old Market Hall. The hall was first opened in 1889 and is a cultural heritage site protected by the National Board of Antiquities. Story is situated in the middle of the market hall, a space originally used for loading horse carriages. The interior decoration fits the original architecture, but brings a new, fresh flavor with a modern touch.
The new cafe-restaurant’s Fantastic Four are no newcomers to Helsinki’s restaurant scene. Teemu Aura is a familiar face from, e.g. Michelin-awarded Demo and Grotesk. He currently runs Patisserie Teemu & Markus together with Markus Hurskainen. Westerholm and Sarkkinen co-own the Sushibar + Wine and Vin-Vin restaurants, as well as the top wine wholesaler Viinitie.
Everything with Story adds up: an exquisite milieu, top chefs and patissiers, experts of fine wines and service, and a love for the handmade and the best ingredients.
