As a longtime admirer of Japanese Modernism, I am deeply saddened that these great buildings might soon disappear. We hope that Bottega Veneta can help promote awareness of this issue, as we believe that great design is timeless. As part of the cultural heritage of the future, it would be a great loss for the next generation to be unable to embrace the beauty of these icons for themselves.” Tomas Maier

Due to the risk of losing much of Japan’s post-war architecture, Bottega Veneta Creative Director Tomas Maier, a lifelong architecture enthusiast, is raising awareness for, and encouraging the honoring of, these icons.

House SAR By Nico Van Der Meaulen in South Africa | Residential Design

As usual, Nico Ven Der Meulen have just delivered a beautiful residence in South Africa, I had to share it with you.

From the Architects:

Designed by the highly acclaimed Werner van der Meulen, House Sar encapsulates luxury, comfort and functionality in a minimalist architectural setting. The clients approached Nico van der Meulen Architects with a modest single storey pitched roof house.

Limited views and access to the garden resulted in the rooms beings dark, and thus the clients main request was to transform this house into a light-filled open plan contemporary home. Ensuring that every room was naturally lit became the challenge for Werner van der Meulen, but one he proved could be done.

A framework of steel columns and beams surround the entrance while louvered planes conceal the four garages and floating roofs (if you are interested on learning more about the garage doors, try here).Well,Titan Garage Doors Abbotsford is also helping out people in getting the best garage door services. It’s as if each plane whether wall, roof or floor has been intentionally treated differently either in material, texture or colour creating a unique entrance design.

Bentley Emirates unveils limited edition Mulsanne Majestic in Dubai | Cars

Bentley Emirates has revealed the first of only five Bentley Mulsanne Majestic models exclusively reserved for the UAE.

Only 15 models of the Mulsanne Majestic have been hand crafted by Bentley’s Mulliner division in Crewe and all are reserved for customers in the Middle East. Five models are dedicated to customers in Saudi Arabia, five in the United Arab Emirates and five in Qatar.

Design in Beirut Design Lighting For Dikakeen in Kuwait | Lighting Design

Dikakeen is a cafe which opened in Kuwait not long ago. The designers of the project worked closely with DIB (Design in Beirut) to complement the concept of the space with proper customized lighting. Since the shop concept itself is inspired by old souks, DIB came up with fixtures that would resemble traditional lamps by using handmade glass yet embraced with modern stainless steel accessories.

The design itself is associated with nostalgic memories of old Kuwait ‘kiosks’, chefs at Dikakeen specialize in Kuwaiti food with an added twist.

One Hot Yoga | Studio Design

Yoga studios are emerging almost everywhere due to the up and rising popularity of yoga and similar practices. Designing such spaces is particularly tricky considering the effect of every element on the efficiency of yoga practice itself. I particularly liked One Hot Yoga studio designed by Rob Mills Architects because of the simplicity in combining materials yet respecting yoga principles.

ML Residence by Gantous Architects | Residential Design

Located in Mexico City, this modern 1000 sq. m residence was designed by Gantous Architects.The secret to having a rich volume is to know how to incorporate several finishes yet still look polished and pulled together. This is exactly how the design was tackled here. My favorite part, however, was the indoor garden. scroll below to check the remaining photos.

BeB Italia Releases the New UP Junior | Furniture Design

B&B Italia, one of the world’s most famous furniture brands, just announced it is releasing a ‘junior’ edition of its up series. the original lounge chair was designed back in 1969. This Christmas it will be displayed in a few of their select showrooms. If you have seen the original grand sized one, you would understand the significance of this new piece. It’s extremely comfortable, stylish, and acts as a statement piece to any interior.
