Named by Wallpaper* as one of the leading designers of the last 15 years, Marcel Wanders never fails to impress. Since 1996 he has been taking the design world by storm. Mainly known for his product design for popular brands, he has made use of his talent in intricate detailing exclusive to him in his interiors. One of the most remarkable designers with a very distinct style anyone can guess a space designed by Wanders just by spotting it. This project, the Mira Moon Hotel, is no exception. Every corner was well developed and thoroughly designed while using pieces of furniture & products designed by Wanders personally such as the lovely Tulip chairs shown above, the restaurant tables, chairs, lighting, tiles, and bathroom fixtures as well.
In his collaboration with Yoo, Marcel Wanders’ interior design for this hotel property takes as its starting point the Moon Festival fairy-tale, a legend in Chinese mythology about the Moon Goddess of Immortality. Updating this tale to suit a contemporary setting, the characters from the story are represented throughout the spaces and references to traditional Chinese culture are expressed through modern furnishings with antique Chinese fabrics and prints, peony flower wall details, tailored carpets, digitally composed Bisazza tile graphics and a ‘lucky charm’ feature wall in the lobby.
Inspiration for the interior was also taken from traditional Chinese craftsmanship. Ceramics, carved timber and cut crystal are used throughout, creating a heady cultural mix which is made relevant today with a warm color palette of orange, brown and light green. This combination of heritage with modern artistic expression is a hallmark of Marcel’s work; an approach which has given Mira Moon one of the most distinctive, vibrant hotel interiors in the region.
