Support A Great Cause With Fashion | Beirut Events

One thing better than great design is great design with a cause, a cause which is dedicated for improving the lives of children with cancer . TOUFOULA, a Lebanese non-governmental organization, has been dedicated to bringing joy to the lives of children suffering from cancer and blood diseases since 2006. The NGO aims to enhance the hospital wards for the children and make it a better environment for them to be in, by turning their rooms into Dream Rooms. To help enhance their quality of life and make them endure their treatment more easily, entertainment and educational activities as well as art therapy workshops are held regularly. Part of the work is also dedicated to increasing public awareness on the threats of cancer and how to circumvent it.

 

PINKO, the Italian trendy women’s wear, and the symbol of glamour, seduction and fashion, is launching a limited edition Tshirt, PINKO “Love” Beirut, from which 20% of the proceeds of the sale will go to TOUFOULA. Through this valuable and caring initiative, PINKO will definitely help the NGO reach its goal, and constantly create more Dream Rooms for the children with cancer, bringing happiness and heartwarming smiles to their faces. Isn’t it refreshing when fashion houses use their assets for a good cause?

Design Days Dubai is the Middle East’s and South Asia’s first fair dedicated to collectible and limited edition design, will showcase exclusive high-end design pieces by 22 international and regional design galleries.

Gucci Opens Museum In Florence | Luxury

A year of events in celebration of Gucci’s 90th anniversary will culminate with the official public opening of the GUCCI MUSEO inside the historic Palazzo della Mercanzia located in Florence’s Piazza Signoria.
A permanent exhibition from its rich and culturally significant archive, which has been preserved and amplified throughout the years, will be juxtaposed with contemporary art installations supported by the Pinault Foundation.  An icon store, bookshop, caffè and gift shop complement the exhibition spaces to create a destination location for visitors.

The GUCCI MUSEO is divided into different thematic rooms inspired by the House’s iconic motifs and symbols.
The ground floor hosts the Gucci Caffè, a meeting space that not only welcomes visitors into the museum, but also provides a new and attractive gathering place for Florentines and visitors to the city alike.
In the spirit of today’s connected age, visitors may take advantage of a social area for a coffee or to go online using the museum’s wireless network.

In the adjacent space there is the bookstore, which will be managed in conjunction with Rizzoli, now coming to Florence adding to its other existing locations in New York, London and Milan. Thanks to this partnership, the GUCCI MUSEO will be offering publications for enthusiasts of art, fashion, photography and architecture, through a curated selection of contemporary and vintage works.

In the same space, a gift shop will offer the chance to purchase exclusive collectible items including iPhone and iPad cases, scented candles, bookmarks, totes, postcards, luxury stationery and chocolates all with the GUCCI MUSEO trademark.
Nearby, the Icon Store will offer the possibility to purchase from the exclusive Icon Collection of unique editions, including bags such as the New Jackie, the New Bamboo as well as the horsebit moccasin, the Flora scarf, all designed by Giannini with exclusive colors and detailing especially for the GUCCI MUSEO.

11 Concurso Internacional de Diseño Andreu World

Andreu World is a Soanish brand known worldwide for high quality contract furniture such as tables and chairs. Every year they arrange a contest to allow designers and design students from all ages and origins to participate and submit their chair or table design. You still have the chance to participate. below are the details, you can also check their facebook page or website for additional details. The pieces will be viewed by some of the world’s greatest designers.

 

From Andreu World:

Contestants: Designers of all ages, professionals and students from all fields of designs from around the world.
Design object: Chair and/or table
Prizes: 1st prize 3.000 euros, 2nd prize 1.000 euros, and 4 special mentions.
Deadline: September, 2011

In order to participate, contestants must design an item of furniture (seat or table) that contemplates all the specifications outlined by Andreu World, SA in the product .

This year’s jury:

Paolo Moroni, founder of the Sawaya & Moroni Architecture and InteriorDesign studio, Gabriele Schiavon from the La Granja Design Collective;Tobias Lutz, Director of Architonic website; interior design professional Bernadí Olegué and Paloma Leyra, editor of Harper’s Bazaar/Spain, comprise this year’s jury.

Roche Bobois Paris Celebrates 40 Year Anniversary Of The Mah Jong Sofa | Furniture

This year Roche Bobois Paris, one of the world’s leading furniture brands, celebrates the 40th birthday of its iconic sofa composition, the Mah Jong. The Mah Jong is without a doubt one of the trendiest and most flexible sofa compositions ever created.

In the 1970s, Hans Hopfer’s innovative informal approach to comfort had a profound influence on the way people furnished and arranged their living space. In 1971, he created the Mah Jong, a sofa based on total freedom of function and form.

By encouraging people to arrange the elements as suits them best, it could change the landscape of the living room, offering a whole new approach to the way we view and arrange the spaces in which we live. The composition options are almost limitless, giving one the opportunity to completely reorganize one’s living space, thereby redefining the original meaning of the term “sofa”.

At angles or overlaid, the Mah Jong allows limitless options of composition. It can be armchair, sofa, lounge chair or bed; a space in which to rest, to play or to lounge. It encourages experimentation and breaks the rules of formal living, reflecting the nonconformist era in which it was born.

Over the years, Roche Bobois has called upon those with creative talent to “dress” special editions of the Mah Jong. Each of these artistic collaborators has managed to express a new seductive and surprising facet of the Mah Jong without changing the core design. Roche Bobois collaborated with Kenzo Maison, Missoni, and Jean Paul Gaultier, to create 3 of their finest editions shown in the photos here.
