tb_170212_01-940x626

The Burbury Hotel is located in Barton, Canberra, a short distance from Parliament House. This 4.5 star hotel accommodates 100 guest rooms with interiors by Katon Redgen Mathieson.

Conceived for the corporate market, the hotel rooms feature dark fabric wall panels, crisp white plantation shutters, and a custom designed carpet. A timber veneer clad box separates the bedroom from the open plan bathroom area and houses a built in desk, wardrobes and a mini bar. The vanity is designed as a freestanding furniture element, whilst the shower and toilet are screened by a wall of translucent glass.

The hotel public areas incorporate dark timber wall paneling and Gohera limestone floors. The hotel corridors continue the color palette of the guest rooms with a graphic black and tan striped carpet. The Burbury Terrace on the upper level of the hotel is designed as a multi purpose venue for functions, the hotel breakfast service and as a lounge for hotel guests.

The hotel opened in September 2011.

399860_296633073712292_269683073073959_844104_2035085432_n

Being around furniture all the time and trying to be up to date on new releases from world renowned furniture brands, I thought it would be a great idea to point out a few of my favorite armchairs/ lounge chairs that were recently released.

One of my favorites now is the B&B Italia armchair “ Husk” by Patricia Urquiola. It is extremely comfortable, very trendy, and surprisingly made with recyclable and environmentally friendly materials. It can be in various colors and finishes and used as an outdoor piece as well.

baxter

From the latest Maison & Objet 2012 exhibition, I loved Baxter’s HOUSTON armchair with a cast aluminum body and a wooden base. The seat is made with soft feather cushions covered in soft leather.

Dedon Collaborated with Jean-Marie Massaud, one of the most popular architects in the world, and came up with “SeaX”. Taking inspiration from the sleek racing sailboats of the America’s Cup, SeaX comes in dining and lounge dimensions with a selected choice of characteristically innovative, weather-resistant DEDON materials: suitable man-made leather and our state-of-the-art woven fabrics.

Minotti Stand 2011_CF013559

Minotti is my all time favorite furniture brand. An armchair I love from their 2011 collection is the Jensen armchair by the famous architect Rodolfo Dordoni.  It comes in a medium and high back and in various finishes, from Minotti’s luxurious leather to their wonderful fabric finishes. It also comes with an optional footstool.

elisabeth

Fendi Casa introduced in 2011 the Varenne Sofa and then the Elisabeth armchair which is considered a compliment to it. The Elisabeth is a form of club chair with arms resembling the horse saddle, one of Fendi’s iconic symbols.

Fendi Casa, Baxter, & Minotti are found at Design Circle, Tilal Mall Shoueikh, Kuwait: Tel: +965 22255205

Ralph Lauren Home opened last week at Tilal Mall, Shoueikh.

B&B Italia is found at Tilal Mall as well.

Dedon is found at Creative design center in Shoueikh, at the same mall as Roche Bobois.

Bringing Nature Inside| Residence In Brazil By Marcio Kogan

Mirindaba-House-in-Brazil-by-Marcio-Kogan-6

It is always a joy to see a house built using stone and wood as the main finishes on is façade. This is the best way to incorporate natural elements in architecture to feel harmonious with the nature surrounding it. This beautiful residence is by Architect Marcio Kogan who created open spaces yet allowed the dark Brazilian wood, stone, and water features to continue to the interior.  Enjoy the photos below.

Paris Versus New York : A Tally Of Two Cities | Visual Arts

142267_15065762_b

Vahram Muratyan is a talented Parisian art director and a graphic designer living between Paris and New York. He has created a beautiful online series of charming illustrations focusing in a friendly and humorous manner the differences between New York and Paris.

His book "Paris versus New York: A Tally of Two Cities" features 105 of his illustrations, 60 of which have never been published before. I loved the Carrie Bradshaw vs. Amelie illustration, actually the ones I posted here are my favorites. Which ones did you like?

Inside Melania Trump’s Penthouse | Residential Design

02-melania-shorine-1

Refinery29 had the remarkable chance of interviewing the lovely Melania Trump, Mr. Donald Trump’s wife. In that interview they were able to capture some images of their penthouse and a few of the things she likes the most. What most people don’t know is that Melania Trump graduated in Design and Architecture before becoming a famous model and then Mr. Trump’s wife in 2005.

Their penthouse/ mansion is mainly characterized with the use of gold and white marble, no overpowering colors or patterns, all arranged elegantly.

I always love to incorporate the “lounge” seating, where 4 comfortable lounges are set together to form a cozy seating.

Sculptures Made Out Of Matchsticks | Art

DavidMach12

David Mach is the artist behind these matchstick sculptures. He starts off with designing a form, usually having a plastic model made from a clay mold. Then the task of sticking each matchstick onto the figure begins.

His sculptures are usually of controversial people or characters everyone is familiar with such as Betty Boop, Charlie Chaplin, and  Marilyn Monroe. The first question I had was whether he applies the color to the matchsticks or buys them already in those colors, turns out he imports many of them from Japan

Mach sells some of them at galleries and auctions, but others are destined to be set aflame and burnt down at exhibitions.

AGI Architects Design Wafra Living Complex in Kuwait | Architecture

1324969126-wafra-living-general-view-1000x666

This is another project in Kuwait designed by an international architecture firm. I have no idea if it will actually be realized or just a concept for the WAF competition. I found the project interesting in terms of utilizing the best features of the location and enhancing others, allowing a great view for most tenants in addition to privacy and spaces to enjoy sports. In terms of aesthetics, I guess the openings are a bit too busy, but I would support it any day if it will be built with the exact characteristics mentioned by the architects.

The design for the ‘Wafra Living’ complex by AGi Architects won the first prize in the future project/residential category in the WAF 2011 competition. The proposal consists of a high rise building set back from the street and an L-shaped building defining the street edge, conceived to maximize privacy within the community, whilst providing ample natural light and usable indoor and outdoor common spaces. Cuts have been made in the front building in order to provide better views for the lower floor apartments in the back tower. The proposal combines at different levels domestic and collective scales, private and public, within the complex, whilst at the same time traces the way to merge in the neighborhood by offering part of the ground floor level (where the pedestrian and car access are) to community life through the retail facilities included. At level +6.00 m is created a “High Square”, a community space for the tenants to enjoy sports or any other leisure activities in a more private environment.A “veil” climbs the façade as an occupiable layer that conceals the various service spaces within the apartments that do not directly relate to the public. It also hosts the fire escape stairs, separated away from the cores to be placed in this secondary circulation layer that faces the inner courtyard of the complex.

Lebanese Architects Najjar-Najjar Design A Residence In Austria | Architecture

Villa-A-05-1-Kind-Design

Lebanese architects Karim and Rames Najjar of Najjar-Najjar Architects have designed this stunning 420sq.m residence in Austria back in 2008.The property is accessible from the road behind leading down hills to the building’s main entrance, covered by an extended cantilever roof structure. On the street side the building facade is closed with natural stonework to provide intimacy towards the street.

Villa-A-01-1-Kind-Design

Following the topography of the site the house is partly carved into the ground where the fitness and wellness facilities are located as well as an office and playroom for children. The dining area with an open kitchen is reached by taking a few steps down from the central hall. From there another couple of steps lead to a comfortable area where one can lounge on the sofa or chaise lounge overlooking the swimming pool and enjoying the marvelous view over the city. The floor materials are distinguished according to level and function. The bedrooms are located on the upper levels that are accessed by stairs which leads to an open gallery.
