Tribal DDB Office By i29 | Offices

1

i29 interior architects designed these offices for the advertising agency Tribal DDB Amsterdam. The space is around 650m2 and accommodate 80 members of staff.

Tribal DDB Amsterdam is a highly ranked digital marketing agency and part of DDB international, worldwide one of the largest advertising offices. i29 interior architects have gained numerous awards and nominations over the years for their distinct work especially in commercial spaces and offices.

The main features in this project are the neutral colors of white and grey and more importantly the use of felt material to encase almost everything. The use of this material aids in sound absorption and in hiding up scars caused by demolition. “ There is probably no other material which can be used on floors, ceiling, walls and to create pieces of furniture and lampshades than felt. It’s also durable, acoustic, fireproof and environment friendly. Which doesn’t mean it was easy to make all of these items in one material!”

From the designers:

The goal was to create an environment where creative interaction is supported and to achieve as much workplaces as possible in the new structure with flexible offices and large open spaces.

i29 searched for solutions to various problems which could be addressed by one grand gesture. At first a material which could be an alternative to the ceiling system, but also to cover and integrate structural parts. Acoustics became a very important item, as the open spaces for stimulating creative interaction and optimal usage of space where required. This led us to the use of fabrics. It is perfect for absorbing sound and therefore it creates privacy in an open space. From felt we made ceiling, walls, furniture and lamps.

Hermès Collaborates With Kongo For Graffiti Inspired Scarves | Fashion

In addition to their iconic Berkin, Hermès are popular for their Carré scarves which I dedicated a post to when I first started this blog.

For its Fall/Winter 2011-2012 Collection, Hermès collaborated with French graffiti artist Kongo. The artist used  his signature style while designing the scarves. Available at Hermès boutiques around the globe now, part of the proceeds will be donated to Kongo’s graffiti collective kosmopolis, which supports young artists.

I don’t really feel this is actually the spirit of Hermès in terms of design though I am for the cause. It makes you wonder whether brand names take such causes lightly.

Sculptural Residence Overlooking Atlantic Ocean in Senegal | Architecture

DakarSow_001

This breathtaking feature is a residence for a Senegalese family. It’s located on a cliffside overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and was designed and completed during this year. The architects are Saota – Stefan Antoni Olmesdahl Truen Architects and the interior design by ANTONI ASSOCIATES.

Villa Dakar Sow is a very prominent architectural structure which incorporates  historical elements, a beautiful open plan, amazing view, and a sculptural staircase. The majority of the furniture, as with most luxury modern houses, is by Minotti.

DakarSow_003

Whilst the cliffside site presented an extraordinary opportunity for a house on the edge of Dakar’s CBD, the slowly eroding nature of the cliff face required a very carefully considered structural solution.’ says Greg Truen, Project Partner, ‘resulting in a building design that seemed to float off the cliff’s edge’.

The Kitchen is an open kitchen with a separate traditional kitchen as well as the garage.  From the Entrance one moves past the sculptural circular stair to the Entertainment Room and the double volume Family Lounge which connects up with a floating stair to the upper level Pajama Lounge. The Main and the two children’s bedrooms are placed on this upper level.

The Main Bedroom Suite opens up onto a large terrace which is the roof of the more formal living wing of the house and the element which projects over to the ocean. The Main Bathroom opens into a private garden and outdoor shower situated over the garages.

One of the features of the house is the Contemporary Metal Spiral Stairs. To add to the sense of continuity between the levels the 20mm in diameter stainless steel rods run from the first floor handrail to the lower ground floor, thus making the stairwell look like a sculptural steel cylinder. A skylight above the stairwell as well as floor to ceiling glazing in the lounges adds to the sense of transparency.

“Throughout the villa, modern works of art, many of which are from the client’s private collection, sit comfortably within this luxury residence, creating an intention that is decidedly sleek and contemporary” says Mark Rielly of ANTONI ASSOCIATES.
