Architecture firm BNKR Arquitectura, have designed an incredible 65-story ‘earth-scraper’ which plunges 300 meters below ground in Mexico City. The  upside down pyramid will house10 stories each for homes, shops and a museum, as well as 35 stories for offices, and a cultural center.

A glass floor covers the massive 240m x 240m hole in the city’s main square to filter in natural light from the world above. The earth-scraper is flooded with natural lighte and will have many green areas, to act as a “run-to” area from every day noises. This has to be one of the most creative and beautiful architectural projects one could come across.

An Architect Designs His house Using Hi Macs Acrylic Stone

himacs06

For the past couple of decades, designers have been going for products that are more flexible in incorporating their designs, yet with durable finishes and a variety of colors. Thus the popularity of non-porous acrylic based surface materials such as Corian and Hi Macs are being used almost everywhere. In the project architect Karl Dreer incorporated the HI MACS® for his own private house. “HI-MACS® provides the opportunity of creating nearly any design in nearly any building — regardless of unusual weathering conditions, high degrees of moisture or enormous loads. It exceeds the standard material limits.”

himacs01

Window frames made out of HI-MACS® Arctic White, the grey pedestals are made from the material.

himacs09

A fitness and wellness area and family office are located on the upper floor of the left cube. A shower, wash basin, shelves and small seating options made from HI-MACS® are also included here. Temperature, lighting and shading of the house are controlled via BUS system — central, but individual. The operation and visualization of all details takes place via touch panels which are installed in every room. This HI-MACS® house exists without fossil fuels and sets standards for environmental protection and efficiency. Finishing touches like self-designed garden furniture made completely from HI-MACS® complete this story.

The dining room table is the central feature of the first floor and the link between the living room and dining area. The ability to thermoform HI-MACS® was critical in implementing the designed table.

In the kitchen all furniture including cabinet doors, worktop and sinks are made also from HI-MACS® with a special detail on the front milled cabinet doors.

WikiLeaks Headquarters In Sweden | Office Design

284333226_08

According the Architect’s website, this office was constructed for an internet service provider 30 meters down under the granite rocks of the Vita Berg Park in Stockholm. Known as Pionen – White Mountain, the space was designed by Albert France-Lanord Architects,  with the concept of considering the rock as a living organism crawling into the actual workspace. After destruction of the former office and blowing up the rock to create extra space, they reinforced the cave, and made all the technical installations required for running the servers hosting their data. As you can see, not much “visual enhancements” were needed, the location itself just needed the lighting effects, in addition to what looks like an “operations” room, due to the sensitivity of the works of the famous WikiLeaks founder and team. It is without a doubt the best option for who was for a brief time, one of the world’s most powerful and wanted persons.

Boxing Life Penthouse in Italy | Residential Design

boxing03

Ufficio di Architettura has designed the interior of a 300 sq.m penthouse apartment in Turin, Italy in 2009  inspired by the oriental sensibility of the "box as a container full of instruments for the unfolding of human life". This house is the perfect concept of how architecture can organize the different zones and yet remain functional, transparent, and coherent. The use of neutral tones adds to the elegance of the volumes.

L’Opera Restaurant In Paris | Restaurant Design

At 6 million Euro, and three year construction time, The Opera Garnier’s first ever restaurant has opened in July 2011 becoming one of Paris’ hottest spots. The design of the project was assigned to  Odile DECQ Benoit CORNETTE – Architectes Urbanistes after a contest.  The Phantom restaurant is located at the Opéra Garnier, more commonly known as the Paris Opéra, a 1,600-seat opera house on the Place de l’Opéra in Paris, France, which was the primary home of the Paris Opera from 1875 until 1989.  The condition of processing the designs was a bit limiting since they were not allowed to make any irreversible alterations, no visible structures were allowed, and no alterations whatsoever were allowed on structure, pillars, walls or ceilings.

One of the most interesting features is the  undulating glass curtain on the restaurant’s façade, sliding between the pillars.Their chairs are all from  Poltrona Frau, when combined with the bench and floors, they produce a theatrical character reminiscent of the phantom of the opera which was once performed within the auditorium.
