I was lucky enough last January to be present at the launch of the new Milling Road collection from Baker, designed by Kara Mann. Kara Mann is an interior designer based in New York & Chicago since 2005. A recognized stylemaker, Kara was called an “of-the-moment” designer by InStyle, and Vogue has appointed her a member of “The Vogue 100,” a group of influential decision makers and opinion leaders known for their distinctive taste in fashion and culture.
Mann’s work has appeared in Architectural Digest, The New York Times, Traditional Home, and House Beautiful, among others. She has served on several esteemed design panels, including the Details magazine panel at La Cienega Design Quarter and the Interiors magazine West Week Panel, both in 2010. In spring of 2015, Mann collaborated with Gwyneth Paltrow on a Goop pop-up shop in Chicago that showed off her playful, relaxed, yet sophisticated sensibility.
Mann’s first collection for Milling Road updates traditional materials with details that add a sense of edginess while still reflecting luxury via clean lines and timeless designs. Her pieces are architectural, purposeful, quietly impactful and refined, and reflect her love of simplicity and dedication to fine craftsmanship.
While discussing the collection with Mann, she explained she wanted a collection which is more approachable, trendy, & young. She used metals, marble and simple forms. She wanted the younger generation to experience Baker furniture as well. I hope you enjoy the collection. For more details check out the Baker website.
During the presentation at Baker, they also had on display their most iconic pieces shown below.
