Elie Saab Designs 3 Rugs for The Rug Company

Legendary fashion designer Elie Saab collaborated with The Rug Company on a collection inspired by his signature design elements: femininity, luxury and modernity. Saab created three modern rug designs that revolve around themes such as foliage, floral motifs, texture and abstraction. The collection was presented in Beirut at The Rug Company showroom in the presence of media and other guests.

The rug shown above is ‘In Bloom’, it features oversized florals in shimmering silk tones of teal, gun metal and green. Challenging the traditional format of a rug, the blooms burst from both ends of the rug and reach for its centre, creating an elegant mirror pattern.

Beirut Terraces by Herzog and DeMeuron | Architecture

A project we have been monitoring for some time now, Beirut Terraces by the world renowned architects Herzog & DeMeuron, is finally completed. The project was initiated in 2009. More details below:

Description by the architects:

The city of Beirut lies in the heart of the developing Middle East. Having always been a cosmopolitan city, it is a focal point of the region as a cultural and geographical link between Europe and the Middle East. The history of Beirut could hardly be more diverse; remains of Phoenician, Roman, Mamluk, Ottoman and Colonial rule have shaped the city and its buildings. The design of Beirut Terraces was quite literally influenced by the layers of the city’s rich and tumultuous history. It is a history now also marked by inescapable traces of an eventful present. For generations to come, the people of Beirut will remember the assassination in 2005 of Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, when a car bomb detonated in front of St. Georges Hotel. The resultant devastation is still visible as a daily reminder. Despite a scarred history, there is a clear vision to rehabilitate the area, with a master plan well under way that aims to rebuild and revitalise this part of Beirut. The site of Beirut Terraces is in a portion of the master plan dedicated to office and residential high-rise buildings, in the vicinity of a new yacht marina.

Louis Vuitton New Objets Nomades to Be Displayed During Fuori Milan | Exhibition April 4-9, 2017

The most anticipated furniture fair all year is the Salone Del Mobile, this year it takes place between April 4-9, 2017. The fair is complemented with Euroluce among other interesting events.
The Objets Nomades Collection from fashion house Louis Vuitton, enriched with 10 new items, will be presented during Fuori Salone in Milan, from April 4th to 9th at Palazzo Bocconi.

Created in 2012, the Objets Nomades collection keeps alive Louis Vuitton’s long tradition of beautifully crafted travel objects. Some of the world’s most renowned designers have since imagined stunning travel-inspired Objets, which have then been made by Louis Vuitton.

The limited editions and experimental prototypes that make up the Objets Nomades collection all pay homage to the House’s special orders of the past and add the defiantly contemporary visions of creative designers from around the world: Atelier Oï, Maarten Baas, Barber and Osgerby, the Campana Brothers, Damien Langlois-Meurinne, Nendo, Gwenaël Nicolas, Raw Edges, Patricia Urquiola, Marcel Wanders, and, most recently, India Mahdavi and Tokujin Yoshioka.

Today, there are 25 Objets Nomades and 10 among them will be presented for the first time during Fuori Salone in Milano. From a hammock to a deckchair, from a swing chair to a foldable stool. Each Objet embodies the same ideals: a love of the beauty of fine materials, the possibility of forms and carefully balanced proportions, complex and meticulous craftsmanship, and close attention to detail.
