3D Graffiti by Peeta | Art

I’ve been interested in graffiti art lately trying to incorporate it into certain spaces and designs because of  its authentic street character. It feels so real. This is the first time however that I come across the work of the talented Peeta, who mastered the art of 3D graffiti by learning from those around him during his years in Italy. His art is become pretty popular and has begun to emerge in Mexico, the U.S, and Canada in addition to numerous countries around Europe. He also has a lot of his art done on canvases and are for sale.

Luxury Villa in South Africa | Residential Design

Designed by South African firm Design Partnership, this beautiful villa is located in Johannesburg, South Africa.I am particularly interested in the interior of this project, the colors, furnishing and beautiful spaces. The staircase as you will see is a sculpture in its own. Its obvious grey tones are the trend now, after being exclusive to showrooms and shops, people are choosing grey as the main color for their residences.

Twister Restaurant in Ukraine | Restaurant Design

Twister is a restaurant that opened last month in Kiev, Ukraine, designed by  Sergey Makhno and Vasily Butenko. The sculptural elements in their design are fabulous, the dropping lighting suspensions and continuous curves give a beautiful whimsical effect probably with the purpose of translating the name into the interior.

Exclusive: Inside Roche Bobois Kuwait | Part 2

Roche Bobois to many means the stylish modern and fresh contemporary furniture brand, to others its their favorite provincial style  furniture with charm written all over it. Both styles have allowed it to become one of the most popular furniture brands worldwide appealing to a very large number of tastes. In a previous post I included photos of their contemporary collection showroom here in Kuwait, in this one you see exclusive photos of Roche Bobois’ Provincial showroom located adjacent to the first one, also at 7 Zones in Shoueikh.

“Provincial” is a description which means items pertaining to the Provence of France, designers there are known for their intricate details and rustic finishes. The woodwork is mostly handmade in the Provence by craftsmen known for their skills for ages. The introduction of bright colors to many of their signature pieces gives the classic designs a twist and distinct appeal.

Roche Bobois accessories are a world of their own, some are not part of our daily lives anymore yet look wonderful within the setting they are intended for.

BIG to Design Mosque & Islamic Center in Albania

These breathtaking images are of a mosque, cultural center, and museum to be built in Tirana, Albania. The competition was won by Danish architects Bjarke Ingels Group in collaboration with Martha Schwartz Landscape, Buro Happold , Speirs & Major, Lutzenberger & Lutzenberger, and Global Cultural Asset Management.

I know it feels a bit ironic that a Danish firm wins the competition especially with some Muslims  boycotting them for the 2009 incident.

This specific area in Albania has been going through a restoration phase where all three major faiths that co-exist are getting new buildings, an idea I personally believe is wonderful. The images of this mosque give the impression of holiness just at the sight, the details, the fluidity of the buildings, the translucent nature of the buildings are just amazing.

The mosque will accommodate 1000 worshipers for daily prayers, with the ability to open up to the courtyards and plaza and accommodate up to 10,000 people on special ceremonies and holidays.

Designer in the Spotlight | Jassim Al Shehab

Kuwaiti’s are most passionate about their food, this is what I learned in the past couple of years of living in Kuwait. The good thing is that they really know what they are doing, their restaurants offer the tastiest and most creative dishes, and the people behind these concepts are extremely talented. This post, however, is about one of Kuwait’s upcoming young designers, Jassim Al Shehab, who has done a great job in two very popular venues so far, one of which is the recently opened sushi place in downtown Kuwait, Tatami.

The restaurant feature a blend of finishes giving an industrial vibe at times, and another mellow ambience and clean cut structures as per Japanese norms.

The exterior of the restaurant was composed of elements that allow the venue to stand out and contrast against the glass structure of the building its located in, the colors are harmonious and soothing. The planters created the restaurants border separating it from the street.

The other project he worked on earlier, was Posh Café, located on Kuwait’s latest popular  Mall 360.

The materials used give a sense of luxury, the colors are brilliantly put together to give a sense of elegance and simplicity at the same time. This has to be one of the most well designed venues in Kuwait in terms of proportions and finishes.

Leaning Tower of Pisa Now 50cm Straighter

The Leaning Tower of Pisa was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site back in 1987, serious efforts to stabilize the monument were taken. The tower was originally constructed over a period of 199 years (1173-1372) and since then was tilting 1mm for every year. The project of restoring the Pisa Tower has been ongoing for the past 20 years, and now it is open to the public scaffolding-free.

The project cost around €27m  and has lessened the tilt by 50cm, making it straighter, yet still with its famous lean. It now stands at 56meters tall at its highest point.

Would You Take a Trip Around the Moon For $150 Million?

A trip to the moon and back is not such a far cry anymore and with companies taking the space as a serious tourism destination why wouldn’t people start drawing their plans? Virgin Galactic has announced that it would soon be routinely flying tourists into low earth orbit. Space Adventures however is planning to take a bigger leap with tourist trips around the moon. The company has already sent seven tourists to the International Space Station for a few days. The estimated cost however is staggering at around $150 million, but it will definitely be a weeklong trip that will be ‘out of this world’. Plans are that the project should take off in three or five years.

What do you think? If you had the money, would you do it?
